Greetings President Tang, professors, graduating class, ladies, and gentlemen,
I am Jiang Qinghua. I attended UIC five years ago. I completed both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the School of Culture and Creativity. Today, I have the great honor of representing the Graduate School on this most memorable occasion. I’m proud to say that I am a UIC product through and through!
During my time at UIC, I have found that it celebrates the freedom of choice for personal growth, far more than other universities in Asia. This flexibility and freedom have changed my life. When I was admitted to UIC as an undergraduate, I did not have the courage to choose Cinema and television studies. Thanks to the freedom that UIC offers, I was able to explore fields of my interest through elective courses and work with senior students' crews. With this freedom, I successfully transferred to my favorite major by the end of my second year.
In the postgraduate stage, there was again freedom of choice.
During the one-year Film, Television & New Media Program, the courses I chose were focused more on practice in keeping with current trends. The fierce debate about ChatGPT's influence on traditional art will remain my unforgettable memories. Meanwhile, I was exposed to solid knowledge from law, script analysis, communication theory to financial management. For this solid foundation, I’d like to thank Ms. Ashura Lam, Dr. Wei JIANG, Dr. Felicia FAN, Dr. Lei ZHAO, Mr Yang Wang and Dr Tze Yuen Lai for expanding my intellectual horizons. Furthermore, UIC allows students choosing their own teammates. I learnt from outstanding senior teachers and classmates and was encouraged to be my best.
Most people may think that a taught master's degree doesn’t offer many choices in extracurricular experiences. But UIC provides exposure to a variety of teacher-inspired activities, such as UIC Postgraduate Works Screening. As students, we played an active part in designing our own learning. No other postgraduate education in China comes close to UIC.
Now, with our postgraduate certificate in hand, we are ready to embark on the next stage of our lives. We UIC graduates are the lucky ones.
