Good evening, President Tang, teachers, fellow students,
I am AN Dun, a graduate from the Accounting Program. It’s my great honor to be here representing the class of 2022 for Division of Business and Management.
Four years ago, on my first day in UIC, I told myself, “AN Dun, you only have one thing to do: learn something worth the 80 thousand yuan tuition fee.” So I focused on my study, which is what a “good student” should do. This kind of student mindset did help me get good grades, but its limitations also came out. It took me a while to realize that college life isn’t just about learning something specialized, it’s more about finding interests, making friends, improving soft skills, and getting prepared for a future career. All of these things are called, being a responsible grown-up.
For me, and maybe for most of my peers, the transition from a student to an adult was much more difficult than coping with schoolwork. Luckily, UIC has always been there, providing us with almost everything we need to make that transition. Through whole person education, my peers and I lived up to the slogan of “Grow with UIC”, and became truly responsible adults with international perspectives.
As business students, we weigh every action, for its value and cost before making a decision. Now looking back, I do think that I’ve made the right decision in choosing the university. In UIC, I’ve learned something worthy, and I am standing up here, as a full-grown adult. And the same for my fellow students. On behalf of the Class of 2022, I would like to thank UIC, our parents, and all of our teachers for guiding and supporting us along this journey.
Now, it’s time to say goodbye. My peers and I are going to different parts of the world for further education or career development. I will be pursuing a master’s degree in Business Analytics at the beautiful University of British Columbia. It's exciting to be on the verge of a new journey, but also terrifying. Pretty much the same as when we first walked into UIC. Despite the mixed feelings, I know that all of us are ready to face any and all challenges as responsible adults. Because we are part of UIC.
Congratulations and cheers to the Class of 2022!
